- NwHS Board podcasts have been brainstormed by the Board. This will expand our offerings as a society to the membership. Details are in the works. Look for more info in the next month.
- Private Lessons Assistance Grant created as a new opportunity for students who face prohibitive situations with regards to taking private horn lessons. Due to socioeconomic disparity, cultural precedent of serving only privileged groups, and current national movements, like the Black Lives Matter movement, the board would like to start the Private Lessons Assistance Grant Program. The grant will provide up to $500 for students with significant financial need to take lessons. The scholarship is open to students in grades 5-12 who demonstrate financial need. This grant opportunity is open to all such students but is particularly an effort to reach racial groups that have previously been excluded in part by financial barriers. Our goal as a society is inclusion and growth. We seek ideas, marketing assistance, and support from the general membership to help us succeed in this endeavor. A discussion with members followed with ideas for inclusivity, suggestions to create a group to research potential opportunities, how we can branch away from colonial precedents in the NwHS, and creating a mission statement.
- Donations to the NwHS are always accepted and encouraged. Members can donate on our website as a one-time gift or as a continuing donation. If anybody is able to give, please consider helping. Please offer ideas to help improve NwHS and help us thrive!
