The 2013 Northwest Horn Symposium was held at the Montana State University School of Music, April 19 through April 21 in Bozeman, Montana. Horn players of all ages attended from Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, New York, Colorado and Wyoming. Participants listened to each other perform, performed together, shared knowledge and had a lot of fun together. Guest artists Eric Ruske and Michael Thornton inspired us with exquisite performances and teaching through masterclasses and presentations. Jeffrey Snedeker, Stacey Eliason, Josiah Boothby, Nathan Stark, the University of Oregon Horn Quartet and Ensemble under the direction of Lydia Van Dreel, Central Washington University Horn Ensemble under the direction of Jeffrey Snedeker, Washington State University Horn Ensemble under the direction of Matthew Aubin, Montana State University Horns! Ensemble under the direction of Sherry Linnerooth, all presented inspiring performances.
The week-end was filled with master classes, guided warm-up sessions, presentations, massed horn ensemble rehearsals and final concert, concerts by guest artists, regional artists and horn ensembles, Northwest Horn Society annual meeting and mock auditions. Mock audition winners were: High Horn – John Geiger, Low Horn Co-Winners: Karl Koemmpel and Steven Munson.
Vendors included KFS Publishing & Distribution, Eckroth Music and the Yamaha Corportation.
